How is commanding total war battle really like? Is a realism for total war possible?
Hello all generals. recently i was taking a break from playing Shogun 2(ROTS in fact, which is now getting really boring), and switch to some more skyrim mod and red orchestra 2: Rising storm. While i was playing RO2 i came up a thought: can we play total war battle as the generals and commanders back in the ancient times? is a totalwar realism possible? of course i know some of the aspects, as i will list later, will change what totalwar is and people will quickly shout out "impossible!!", "this is no what totalwar is about", and etc. but i really just want to start a conversation of possibilities, and maybe there will be people interesting in this, since we are all armchair generals.
Now for starter, the army will have a command structure with each commander commanding their own unit and answer the order of a single general. there will be no overview map and each commander and general can only see through their first person field of view. Each commander will have their own maps of the terrain if it was scout by either spy or given by the local, or it can be updated as you see more and more of the battlefield. now, the map is going to be just a map, there will not be a real time update of your troop or your enemy troop position. All message update will via text and will run at a delay to emulate the horse messenger back in the day. therefore you can really just give direct command to your own troop within your shouting range, order and other information will come at a delay. this way not only the commanding general's skill is being tested, the lower tier commanding officers will also have a more burden task since now they need to react to the evolving battle situation on their own.
if all these sounds like Mount&blade maybe it is, I am also thinking about the totalwar: arena. If total war is moving into multiple player scene, instead just do what every other RTS or STG has done(1 vs. 1), i would like it to do something more reflect to its genre, and be more of like a commander simulation than just a game of chess. Would it be fun? maybe not, but it is a simulation, and lots people play RO2 and arma series, so just maybe some people can see the charm in this.

midnight commander, total disk size wrong, should I report?
over the weekend I was convertion from raid1 to raid10 and back to raid1 (after realizing I'm stupid and didn't understand how does raid10 work :/) and during the conversion, the midnight commander claimed that I have 27TB of total space while whole array is 10TB (2x3TB,2x2TB).. is this something I should bother to report somewhere or during conversion stuff like this is expected?
