Microsoft Office: How to Convert Older Microsoft Office Files

Even if you are using Microsoft Office 2010, Office 2007, or a newer variant including Microsoft Office 365, it's likely you have files created in Office 2003 or earlier. After you open any of those Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files in Microsoft Office, then Compatibility Mode is turned on, and also you see [Compatibility Mode] from the title bar of the document window. Compatibility Mode ensures that your files can be fully edited with other people that are using previous versions of Microsoft Office, but you can no longer need this backward capability. Which are your choices for working together with these"elderly" but essential files in a newer model of Microsoft Office?
Options for Working with Office 2003 Files

  1. No Changes. When you're editing a document created in an Office 2003 application, you'll be able to continue to work in Compatibility Mode and store the file as standard without altering the document format. In other words, keep dealing with this and saving as before; the document won't be automatically changed to another edition. All these Office 2003 files can nevertheless be opened from Office 2010 or any earlier version.
  2. Save As to Newest Version. You may save any Office 2003 or earlier file like an Office 2007 or newer version. The Save As option is available under the backstage View/File tab (office 2010 and more modern) or any office Button (Office 2007). The downside is that until you specify a different location or disable the old file, both files will remain in the same area but with various file extensions.
  3. Convert to Newest Version. To benefit from all the hottest features in your present version of Microsoft Office, you also can convert a file into the correct Office 2010/2007 file format. By way of instance, the Convert command in Microsoft Word simplifies and deletes a record with a the.doc format, and upgrades the file to the.docx format. The Convert option is recommended within Save.
How to Convert a File to a newer Microsoft Office File Format
Assessing your file gives you use of the new and improved features in Office 20-16, 2013, 2010 or 2007 such as tables, enlarged worksheets, along with PivotTables from Excel, SmartArt and Picture Styles from Word, and new images and transition features in PowerPoint.
To Convert a File:

  1. From of your Microsoft Office apps (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint), start any file created in a previous version of Microsoft Office.
  2. In Office 2010 and more straightforward: Select the Backstage View (Document tab) and then choose the Merge button from the Knowledge tab. In Office 2007: Click on the Office Button from the upper-left corner and choose Convert from the menu.
  3. Next, you are going to understand that a program-specific prompt about the reset activity. Navigate through your choices.
  4. If this program doesn't close and re open mechanically, close the document and reopen it to continue with it with each one of the available features in your current Office app. The converted file will start with the right file expansion. As an example, whenever you save an Excel 2003 file containing macros, it will normally be converted as an Excel macro-enabled workbook (.xlsm extension).
Converted files have been replaced with the updated data and file arrangement. The Convert command is not available when a file is already saved using an Office 2010/2007 extendable. Notice: Before going with the reset procedure, consider if you'd like to first backup your data.

PowerShell: Script to check third party application status, then email the information

*NOTE: This script relies solely upon FileHippo. I will be posting another entry where the vendors will be directly accessed so we can all get the latest information\*

Good morning all.
Being a company with no third party (3PUP) module tied to our SCCM instance and also having our purchase requests for such systems all shot down, we're in the "roll your own" business with 3pup. We've created standards for applications, and though that helps, tracking new releases can be a challenge. One bright spot is that we are permitted to use the RuckZuck ConfigMgr module. As with all packages, though, these need a thorough check and aren't always relflective of our environment.
We are also responsible for some non-standard apps such as SourceTree, Postman, Git Desktop, VS Code and a few others. Some of these apps, well, don't always play nicely.
I've built one script that scrapes data from FileHippo to get this data. In the 2+ years that it's run, the only adjustment needed was to enable TLS 1.2.
One bug I'm addressing at the moment is that Google Chrome only reflects on Stable Releases. When one does come out, it'll be there. In the interim, though, we get a lot of these Betaentries.
Using the code snippet that scrapes FileHippo, the body of the email looks like this.
3PUP matrix
First off, a major shout out to https://github.com//auberginehill where I was able to find my footing and get deeper into this.
I have begun work on another such script that's going to query the developer sites directly. There has been some great progress on this so far. I will share it when ready.
Slowly, but surely, I'm building my GitHub for these scripts: github/thecatdidit/PowerShellUsefulScripts
Below is the script. It isn't the cleanest thing in the world, but that part comese later ;)
Using FileHippo for scraping
