Raid0 HDD degraded performance
Hello Everyone,
I have an issue i can't seem to wrap my mind around. I have two 6GB Inronwolf in a Raid0 (HW through x570) setup. When the drives were clean, I ran a speedtest and got the following results:
- [Read]
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 8, T= 1): 368.285 MB/s [ 351.2 IOPS] < 22725.00 us>
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 378.767 MB/s [ 361.2 IOPS] < 2767.21 us>
- Random 4KiB (Q= 32, T=16): 3.897 MB/s [ 951.4 IOPS] <327929.76 us>
- Random 4KiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 1.403 MB/s [ 342.5 IOPS] < 2916.02 us>
- [Write]
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 8, T= 1): 418.801 MB/s [ 399.4 IOPS] < 19966.33 us>
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 397.041 MB/s [ 378.6 IOPS] < 2638.47 us>

- Random 4KiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 6.555 MB/s [ 1600.3 IOPS] < 621.72 us>

- Date: 2019/11/24 23:37:34
- OS: Windows 10 Professional [10.0 Build 18363] (x64)
The following day , after I had filled the drive up with I received the following resuts:
- [Read]
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 8, T= 1): 385.706 MB/s [ 367.8 IOPS] < 21694.91 us>
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 397.015 MB/s [ 378.6 IOPS] < 2639.97 us>
- Random 4KiB (Q= 32, T=16): 3.978 MB/s [ 971.2 IOPS] <330697.24 us>
- Random 4KiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 1.056 MB/s [ 257.8 IOPS] < 3872.80 us>
- [Write]
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 8, T= 1): 385.883 MB/s [ 368.0 IOPS] < 21670.64 us>
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 388.605 MB/s [ 370.6 IOPS] < 2696.09 us>
- Random 4KiB (Q= 32, T=16): 6.003 MB/s [ 1465.6 IOPS] <257244.49 us>
- Random 4KiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 5.675 MB/s [ 1385.5 IOPS] < 721.23 us>

I expected the results to be somewhat slower as we're not seeking from the outside of the drives anymore. However, a few days later I would get up to a 50% performance degradation even though I may have only added a few gigabytes to the array. The numbers above were literaly cut in half or anywhere between 60-70% of them. This was only applicable to the sequentials read/write.
I've defragmented every which I knew how. Windows Defrag, Defraggler regular defrag and free space defrag. Used contig to defrag MFT. Occassionally after a defrag I would get results more within an expected ballpark:
- [Read]
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 8, T= 1): 338.919 MB/s [ 323.2 IOPS] < 24657.24 us>
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 369.581 MB/s [ 352.5 IOPS] < 2836.21 us>
- Random 4KiB (Q= 32, T=16): 2.166 MB/s [ 528.8 IOPS] <458722.87 us>
- Random 4KiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 1.060 MB/s [ 258.8 IOPS] < 3848.74 us>
- [Write]
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 8, T= 1): 326.748 MB/s [ 311.6 IOPS] < 25596.05 us>
- Sequential 1MiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 343.690 MB/s [ 327.8 IOPS] < 3047.60 us>
- Random 4KiB (Q= 32, T=16): 4.098 MB/s [ 1000.5 IOPS] <332524.38 us>
- Random 4KiB (Q= 1, T= 1): 3.940 MB/s [ 961.9 IOPS] < 981.66 us>
- Profile: Default
- Test: 1 GiB (x1) [Interval: 5 sec]
- Date: 2019/12/13 21:20:44

However, subsequent runs would reduce the numbers, results, etc. For the life of me I cannot figure out why this is happening. Is my Raid bad? Error checking, etc shows no problems with the drives. Is crystaldisk just not smart enough to pick a free contiguous area to test on and is therefore writing/testing in between files allocations?
Any help is appreciated!
Ps. sorry for the Text Bomb.
Edit: spelling/formatting.

I'm having such a nightmare with my newly upgraded PC, I was given a free PC from a colleague at work and it worked perfectly for low end games but i wanted more!
so i invested in a new graphics card which is shown above, and obviously for that graphics card i had to upgrade my power supply... which i did.
before i had no problems with the computer shutting itself off, but suddenly problems started occurring and it shut off with no warning, after a while my friend who gave me the PC tried to help and after doing various DELL free PC checks, it came back saying the power supply and graphics card were fine, a lot of other BIOS checks and thing above my basic PC knowledge happened and eventually he decided it was a problem with my hard drive, as on "Defraggler" it looked pretty buggered, so i bought a new hard drive. Before when the computer turned off it could have been at any point, either on the internet or playing games... now it seems to just power off when playing games.. i checked Piriform speccy whilst i had "Surgeon Simulator" loaded and saw that it gradually rose and got to 57 degrees then the PC turned off.
After the Hard drive didn't work my friend had completely run out of ideas and now he has moved to Norway (Possibly to escape the guilt of making buy all these new things haha)
I am completely befuddled, and i've looked all over the internet, after this i'll have no choice but to pay the iron price and take the PC to a professional
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
i'll try and answer as many questions as best as i can, but i am quite the PC novice
Thanks!
